We look forward to welcoming you at Extension New Employee Orientation! Virtual orientations are held monthly, and all new employees will attend the next upcoming virtual orientation following their start date. An in-person new employee conference is held annually in Knoxville for all new Extension employees hired within the previous year.
At orientation, you will learn who we are as an organization and why we do what we do.
Orientation Objectives
- Gain an understanding of the mission, vision, values, and culture of Tennessee Extension.
- Connect and build relationships with other new employees, leadership, and departmental and campus staff.
- Learn policies, procedures, and best practices for carrying out your responsibilities.
- Learn about available resources for professional development and educational programming.
Monthly Virtual Orientation
All new employees will attend a monthly virtual orientation during their first month of employment. Orientation is held on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am Eastern Time / 9:00 am Central Time and will last for 1 hour.
Topics covered in monthly orientations include:
- Brief overview of Extension mission, organizational structure, and program areas
- Resources and training available to you as a new employee
- How to get started in SUPER (reporting and event registration system) and K@TE (online learning)
- Resources available for Extension program planning and evaluation
- Where to find information about UT benefits, UT policies, and career development
Online Learning Assignment
All new Extension employees will be assigned an online learning assignment to learn more about the history of the Cooperative Extension System. The online course, A Historical Overview of the U.S. Cooperative Extension System, will be assigned in K@TE after the virtual orientation and will be due one month from the date of orientation. The course will take one hour to complete. To access your assignment, please log in to K@TE and click on your Active Courses.
New Employee Conference
We can’t wait to welcome you to Tennessee Extension at the next Extension New Employee Conference! This event is a time to meet and make connections with fellow new employees, departmental staff, and Extension leadership. We will have opportunities for professional development within your program area and your role, so you can get to know your peers and learn more about your area.
